With 150 dedicated song lyrics, Shkodër commemorates this day as a symbol of rejuvenation, embracing life and vitality. Dita e Muzeve ( Museum Days ) – May 17th-18th :
Since 1977, May 17th and 18th have been designated as International Museum Days by the International Council of Museums. In our country, these days have evolved into an annual tradition aimed at raising awareness of the vital role museums play in our society’s development. Museums serve as guardians of our cultural heritage, offering dynamic platforms for learning, creativity, and cultural exchange. Celebrating International Museum Days provides an opportunity to showcase the diverse array of museums within our nation, highlighting their unique contributions to our understanding of history, art, and science.
Festivali I fëmijëve ( Children’s Festival ) – June 1st :
Children’s Day, observed on June 1st worldwide, has its origins in the 1925 World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva. It’s a day for children to celebrate with joy and happiness alongside their parents and peers. This occasion not only marks festivities but also serves as a platform to advocate against violence and abuse towards children. In Shkodër and across the globe, this day is commemorated with special events, including the Children’s Festival organized by the municipality. Shkodra’s rich history of artistic and musical activities for children makes it a fitting host for such festivities.
San Fest – June 1st-2nd :
San Fest returns for the fourth consecutive year, promising an unforgettable celebration of music and culture. This edition promises to be thrilling and unique. The lineup will feature 8 DJs and 4 live music bands. Approximately 40 national and international artists will perform on the Sanfest stage. Attendees can also look forward to engaging workshops and talks led by industry professionals, enriching the festival experience with opportunities for learning and inspiration. Moreover, Sanfest will showcase local talent through art exhibitions and culinary demonstrations, highlighting the vibrant creativity of the community.
Ekrani I Artit ( The Art Screen ) – June 5th – 9th :
The 6th edition of ‘Ekrani i Artit’ presents exciting novelties and a return to its roots. Featuring a dedicated day for Swedish film and video art for the first time, the festival reverts to its original venue, “Kinema Millenium,” underscoring the intrinsic bond between film and cinema. Continuing its emphasis on experimental film and video art, ‘Ekrani i Artit’ maintains its partnership with the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. The program, showcased in various venues including ‘Art House’ and the ‘Civic Gallery of Shkoder,’ explores untold stories, colonial legacies, environmental impacts, and social justice movements. Additionally, collaborations between artists and musicians at ‘Bed Corner Station’ explore the intersection of music and visual art.
Unum Festival – June 6th – 11th :
Unum Festival ignites the shores of Shëngjini Beach with electrifying energy during its multi-day event in June. Electronic music enthusiasts gather to dance under the stars to the beats of international DJs and artists. With its mesmerizing light shows and pulsating rhythms, Unum Festival offers an unforgettable beachside experience.
Dita Ndërkombtare e Muzikës ( International Day of Music ) – June 21th :
The International Day of Music, first celebrated as Fête de la Musique in France in 1982, will also be institutionalized in Shkodra, creating a lasting tradition and a free space for every musician, whether professional or amateur. On Music Day, citizens and residents are encouraged to play music outdoors in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks. The first Music Day was held in France, and since then, Music Day has become an international phenomenon celebrated worldwide on the same day in more than 460 cities in 110 countries.
Dita e Liqenit ( Lake Day ) – June 21st – 22nd :
“The Day of Shkodra Lake” is a beloved annual festival heralding the start of the tourist season in the charming village of Shiroka, adjacent to the bustling city of Shkodra. This vibrant celebration brings together locals and visitors in a joyful atmosphere, offering a plethora of activities including boat rides and canoe races on the shimmering waters of Shkodra Lake. Residents of Shkodra and tourists alike flock to Shiroka and Zogaj throughout the year, drawn by their serene landscapes and abundant recreational opportunities. With its picturesque scenery and rich cultural experiences, “The Day of Shkodra Lake” epitomizes the timeless allure of this enchanting region, leaving indelible memories for all who attend.
Za Fest – July 25th -27th :
Zâ Festival takes place against the breathtaking backdrop of Theth, a picturesque village nestled in the Albanian Alps. This cultural extravaganza celebrates Albanian music, art, and traditions with live performances, art exhibitions, and cultural activities. Visitors are immersed in the rich heritage of Albania while surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the mountains.
Tuba Fest – September 15th to 17th:
Tuba Fest transforms the ancient walls of Rozafa Castle into a modern spectacle in mid-September. This night festival combines music, art, and technology to create a captivating experience. Attendees can explore interactive installations, enjoy live performances, and marvel at the illuminated castle backdrop, blending the old and the new in a unique cultural fusion.
Dita e Bicikletave ( Bicycle Day ) – September 16th – 22nd :
The city with the longest tradition in Albania in the use of bicycles, Shkodra, dedicates a special festive day to this mode of transportation, which continues to be used by around 30 percent of its residents, ranking it as the fifth city in Europe in terms of bicycle usage, always in proportion to the population. “Bicycle Day” aims to encourage citizens to use bicycles as much as possible to thus protect the natural environment. During these days, various activities and bike tours will be organized, enabling visitors to explore various tourist attractions in the city of Shkodra.
Festa e Miqësisë (Friendship Festival) – Late September:
Festa e Miqësisë brings together friends and neighbors to enjoy beer and local cuisine in a convivial atmosphere. Held at the end of September, the festival fills the air with laughter and camaraderie as people gather to share stories, sample delicious food, and raise a toast to friendship. It’s a celebration of community and connection that embodies the spirit of Northern Albania.
Gzo n’Shkoder – December 1st to January 6th:
Gzo n’Shkoder, the enchanting Christmas Market, transforms the heart of Shkodër into a winter wonderland from December through Epiphany.The market is adorned with twinkling lights and festive decorations, creating a magical atmosphere. Stalls offer a variety of seasonal delights, including handmade crafts, traditional Albanian treats, and mulled wine. Live music, performances, and seasonal activities add to the festive ambiance, making Gzon’Shkoder a must-visit event during the holiday season.
